Quad Citians are no strangers to bridges and this weekend, area students will show their design knowledge in the 6th annual Battle of the Bridges.

The competition put on by the Quad City Engineering and Science Council and the American Society of Civil Engineers, will take place at the Putnam Museum.

Teams will spend three hours designing and building model bridges which are then tested for their structural design.

The competition runs from 11:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday and from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday and is open to the public.

Bridges with the highest structural efficiency will be awarded prizes in each of the five categories, with a "Most Innovative" award being judged from all entries.
