A former athletic director and coach with Quad City ties has died in a weekend car accident.

Late Saturday night the Carroll County Sheriff's Office received a call from suburban Chicago police about a man who had been reported missing. After a search, they found a vehicle on Loran Road, north of Mount Carroll.

The car had apparently left the road, drove over a steep embankment and overturned.

The driver was identified as the missing man, 54-year-old Bruce Scheidegger. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

He worked as the Athletic Director at Carl Sandburg High School in Orland Park, Illinois, but according to his bio on the school's website, he had previously worked at schools in Prophetstown, Dixon, and Sterling.

Scheidegger joined the Carl Sandburg High School staff as Athletic Director in 2007.
