Eluding Suspect Leads To Crash In Mercer County


Two people were arrested after a car chase in Mercer County on Sunday, February 17, 2013. The incident happened near Aledo, Ill., after reports of gas being stolen.

According to the Mercer County Sheriff's Office, a car matching the description of the offending vehicle was spotted by a deputy and was pulled over.

The deputy reported the driver, Justin M. Melton, was armed with a large knife.

The deputy then said Melton fled the scene and eventually crashed the vehicle during pursuit, injuring himself and a female passenger.

Both people were treated for minor injuries and taken to the Mercer County Jail

Melton was arrested and charged with felony theft, aggravated fleeing and being a felon possessing a deadly weapon. Officials say charges are pending on the female passenger.
