An unexpected patient for a school nurse in Clinton. On Wednesday Emily Randolph, a nurse at Eagle Heights Elementary, got word that someone was unconscious on the ground outside. It turned out to be the school custodian who was clearing snow. Randolph led the efforts, giving CPR and using the automatic electronic defibrillator to shock his heart before paramedics arrived.
Randolph says all her training kicked right in, though her fellow staffer isn't who she ever expected to use it on.
"Last night I did not sleep well because I was worried about him and his outcome and this morning when I heard he was talking to his family I felt a whole lot better," said Randolph.
Another nurse, secretary, and the school principal helped out. School officials say the custodian is still in the hospital, but coming around.
