A fire has closed down the Aldi's grocery store on Elmore Avenue in Davenport, Iowa.

The Davenport Fire Department tells KWQC the fire happened overnight Saturday into Sunday morning, March 3, 2013.

The Fire Marshal told KWQC it started in a meat cooler towards the back of the building. The sprinkler system did activate and kept it confined, but did not extinguish it.

Firefighters were able to put out the fire, but not before extensive smoke damage throughout entire building

According to the Fire Marshal, there is "extensive loss, huge loss, significant dollars. Not structural damage, but food and products."

Crews were cleaning up the damage on Monday morning.

According to the Health Department, the store will need to pass inspection before it is allowed to reopen.
