One person was injured in a workplace explosion in Camanche Tuesday morning.

Firefighters were called to the Economy Coatings plant on 21st St. around 9:30. There were no visible flames outside the building, but they found smoke inside. Employees had already put out the fire using fire extinguishers.

An employee was burned after using a grinding wheel too close to flammable liquids, according to the fire department. That person suffered burns to his hand and head and went to get medical treatment in a private vehicle.

Damage to the building is minimal, but damage to the contents is estimated at $500.
