There was a special honor at Central Middle School in Muscatine today.

Justin Johnson is a science teacher at the school and also a member of the Army reserves as a commissioned officer. He nominated principal Terry Hogenson to receive the Patriotic Employer Award.

Today, he was presented with that honor, which comes from the office of Secretary of Defense.

Hogenson described this as a humbling experience especially since his father served in World War II.

"I was not able to serve or didn't choose to serve in the military and for us to receive this gives me a feeling of a reward to kind of honor him," Hogenson said. "And honor people that do serve and Justin."

The plaque will now hang at the school to proudly show the recognition.

"He's been very supportive in making sure that not only is my class covered but that I have a substitute teacher that really is exemplary," Johnson said.
