Lieutenant General Mick Bednarek will be handing over his power as First Army Commanding General on Thursday.

Today at the Rock Island Arsenal he hosted a roundtable talking about his time spent here in the Quad Cities.

Bednarek assumed command of the First Army in April of 2011.

"Here in the midwest, the people are warm and friendly, their outgoing. Tremendously supportive," Bednarek said. "Uniquely patriotic and recognize truly what we bring to not just our Army but to our nation."

Major General Kevin Wendel will serve as the acting commander until a permanent replacement is assigned by the Department of the Army.
