A new program plans to boost Iowa's competitiveness when it comes to manufacturing.

Iowa Senator Tom Harkin and Congressman Bruce Braley introduced the "Rebuild American Manufacturing Act." This legislation will create a national manufacturing strategy to spur job growth, and keep the U.S. competitive with other countries.

Harkin and Braley said in the last decade, Iowa has lost 48-thousand manufacturing jobs.

"Even despite the numbers I shared we're seeing positive signs manufacturing is returning to the U.S.," Braley said. "We need to look at why that's happening and what we can so to promote opportunities for good paying jobs. Strengthen the middle class."

Now that the bill has been introduced he said the next step is to gather bipartisan support.
