The world's 1.2 billion Catholics have a new leader. Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio from Argentina is the first pope from the Americas and the first from outside Europe in more than a millennium. Now people around the world are reflecting on the significance of selecting of a new pope, including many of the catholic faith here in the Quad Cities.

"It's incredible that it's somebody from Latin America showing the importance of Spanish speaking Catholics in the church today and in the United States," said Reverend Charles Adam.

"I like the guy they selected, he seems like a very humble guy who lived in an apartment instead of a mansion," said Steve Korb of Davenport.

At an evening mass at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Davenport Wednesday , church leaders talked of a new era and a new, exciting time. Those attending said a prayer for the new leader.

some talking about the incredible task pope Francis has ahead of him in guiding the church in these times. For now they're celebrating a quick choice and that he is said to be a man of the people.
