The Gathering of the Clan luncheon kicked off this weekend's St. Paddy's Day events here in the Quad Cities

They have introduction of Irish mothers, and introduce the grand parade marshal.

The gathering is tradition, because a year before the parade was organized, leaders met to make plans for lunch. This weekend's events are meant to honor their Irish heritage and pass it on to younger generations.

"It's really the first event that gets going in the Quad Cities and I think everybody is looking forward to it," St. Patrick Society's Michael Patrick Scannell said. "Maybe get out of the house and do something even if the weather is a little bad."

Kevin Patrick Rafferty is the grand marshal for this years parade. He's the son of a former co-chairman of the St. Patrick's Society from Moline.
