It is an interesting combination. Bill Marsoun combines art and geometry and it works quite well. He taught both subjects for years at Washington Junior High School in Rock Island. He has retired from teaching, and that has given him more time to paint.
Marsoun says the more he paints, the better he gets at learning techniques and how colors mix. He says there is an element of geometry in his paintings. How the pieces are going to fit on the canvas, how they relate to each other, and how they are arranged.
Some of his most recent paintings include a clown fish hiding in coral, eagles perched in trees with the Clock Tower building on the Arsenal as a backdrop. He also has painted Bix runners tackling the Brady Street hill. Several of his paintings are on display in local art galleries.
His portfolio is very impressive considering that along the way, Bill had a procedure to correct color blindness. After that procedure, Marsoun says he started seeing colors much better and began using them much more in his paintings.
He paints about four hours a day, and recently did twenty two paintings in twenty eight days.
For about forty years, Bill has painted the beautiful backdrops for productions at Quad City Music Guild. He also is a set designer and director in many Quad City theaters. Painting, he says is fun. If not, he wouldn't be doing it.
