New Rules For Iowa Traffic Cameras

As more cities in Iowa consider using traffic cameras, the Department of Transportation is preparing new rules on where the cameras might be installed along interstates and highways.

The department decided to move ahead on its own after a measure requiring cities and counties to get permits before installing new cameras failed to pass this legislative session.
The guidelines would require cities to provide data showing that cameras are the best tool to improve safety on the highways.
The department plans to hold community meetings to get reactions.
