The Rock Island Arsenal's largest union is calling lawmakers to action.

A Community Sequestration Forum for those who work at the Arsenal was held on Wednesday, March 20, 2013.

The union encouraged people to push politicians to repeal the sequester, and stop furlough notices from being sent out this week.

KWQC spoke with retired Arsenal worker, John Abbott, who's wife currently works at the arsenal.

"Really no one is appreciating how devastating this could be to, not just individual families, but our entire economy."

"All the people that work over there on the island, this is a professional, highly trained, loyal, dedicated, patriotic workforce, these are great folks."

The federal government employs about 2.2 million civilians. About 800,000 of them work for the Department of Defense.
