Iowa Senate Approves Radon Legislation

The Iowa Senate has approved legislation that would require schools to test for radon.

The bill would require public and private schools to test for the radioactive gas and install systems to expel it from buildings.

Residential construction companies would also be required to install pipes to mitigate the colorless and odorless gas in new homes built after January 1, 2015.

Long term exposure to radon is know to cause lung cancer.

The bill now moves to the house.
