Illinois To Lead High Speed Rail

Illinois has been named the leader of the multi-state effort for high-speed rail.

The Illinois Department of Transportation will get at least 35 passenger trains for itself and four other states.

The Federal Railroad Administration has more than $800 million for this project.

Last year, the FRA gave the okay for Illinois to start in-depth studies to move toward high speed service.

The segment from Dwight to Joliet is already under development and is expected to offer 110-mile per hour service by 2017.
