Trial Date Moved At Sheley Pre-Trial

Updated:

A pre-trial hearing was held for Nicholas Sheley on Friday, March 22, 2013, in Whiteside County.

Although a decision wasn't reached as to a change of venue, the trial start date was moved back to October 15, 2013.

Earlier in March, Sheley's attorney, Jeremy Karlin, filed for a change of venue in his trial for the deaths of four Rock Falls residents.

"It's unlikely that the case will be tried in Whiteside County given everything that we know now."

Karlin says too many people in the area are familiar with the case, making it difficult to find a fair and impartial jury.

A decision on the request for the change of venue is expected at a later date.

This is the second murder trial for Nicholas Sheley in Whiteside County, and he's pleading not guilty.

Sheley has already been convicted of two murders in the deaths of Russell Reed of Sterling and Ronald Randall of Galesburg. He's serving two life sentences.

Sheley is also accused of killing an Arkansas couple in Missouri.
