Passenger Jumps From Car; Driver Killed Near Preston, IA

A woman is injured and a man is dead in what apparently started as an issue within a circle of family members and ended in a fatal crash. According to the Iowa State Patrol, police received a call about a domestic situation in Sabula, Iowa around 9:30 Tuesday morning. About 10 minutes later, a crash was reported one mile east of Preston, Iowa on Highway 64.

Troopers say the couple left in the car when the husband began driving erratically. That's when the wife, fearing for her life, jumped from the vehicle. She suffered minor injuries. A short time later, the driver attempted to go around a dump truck, by passing on the shoulder of Highway 64. The driver lost control, crossed both lanes and went into the ditch. The vehicle then struck a tree stump and rolled several times before it came to rest on its top in a creek. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as 46-year-old Timothy Vosatka of Sabula.
