Former Muscatine County Judge Arrested For Marijuana

Updated:

A former Muscatine County judge has found himself on the wrong side of the law, once again.

James A. Weaver, 59, of Muscatine was arrested in Iowa City over the weekend and charged with possession of a controlled substance.

On Sunday, March 31, 2013, Iowa City Police responded to the Sheraton Hotel to evict a guest after his credit was declined.

Police say Weaver refused to open the door when they arrived and they had to use a key to enter the room. They say Weaver was lying in bed and was very intoxicated.

While officers were talking with him, they observed a strong smell of marijuana. Police say a small bag of marijuana was found between the mattress and the box spring.

Weaver served as an Associate Judge from 1982 to 2004. He was arrested for drunken driving in November, 2002, in November, 2004 and in March, 2009.
