Thomson Prison Funding Reportedly In Obama Budget

Updated:

President Obama has released his budget for next year and some Illinois lawmakers say the proposal includes funding for the Thomson Correctional Facility.

The prison was completed back in 2001 but money problems kept it from fully opening.

Last October, the federal government agreed to purchase it.

We're learning the president's 2014 budget includes a request of about $166-million to begin activation at Thomson and two other prisons.

If it were fully funded by Congress, the budget would likely cover the cost of upgrades at the facility. Full activation of Thomson is expected to take two years.
