Cuts For The Monmouth-Roseville School District

Updated:

One local Illinois school is looking at cutting some of its athletic programs to make up for a lack of state funding.

By the fall, the freshmen sports program in the Monmouth-Roseville School District could be gone.

School officials say cutting the program could save nearly $200,000 on transportation costs.

Monmouth-Roseville Superintendent, Ed Fletcher says it's not a done deal.

"It's not an option we want to consider but we need to keep all options open for cuts."

The district has already eliminated teaching positions and freshmen coaches are already unpaid volunteers.

School officials will take a vote on the decision in May or June.
