The Boston Marathon tragedy has local race directors thinking about security too for both the Bix and Quad Cities Marathon.

Directors said they have emergency plans in place, but will review them. There's also medical tents set up.

We talked with a nurse today who works at the Bix tent and she said there are teams of nurses, physicians, aides and therapists with a number of specialties.

They can help with health situations that typically arise at races but are prepared to help beyond that.

"I think anytime you're in an emergency situation or triage situation like that you know anything can happen," nurse practitioner Denise Antle said. "You know "this" is what usually happens, but anything else can happen too. And we have the supplies to take care of them and the people to take care of them at that moment, but its stabilize and transfer and get them where they need to go."

There's also a number of emergency personnel scattered throughout the route.
