Gov. Quinn Tours Illinois Flood Damage

Updated:

Governor Quinn toured the area on North Shore Drive.

He had declared RICO and 37 other counties state disaster areas. A state declaration is required to apply for a federal declaration.

Having a federal declaration will open up funds to people with flood damage who do not have insurance but, Governor Quinn says to qualify you must save all receipts.

Another point Quinn made is how this flood is a reminder that flood protection can be improved.

"We're going to have to work on storm control and flood water management," Quinn said. "That's something that's very important to the people in our state and I think this flood has taught us a lesson of what we have to do."

There have not been any evacuations in RICO.

The Red Cross is offering assistance, but a shelter has not been opened because the RICO EMA says it's not needed.
