Barstow Hit Hard By Rock River Flooding

Flooding has affected a lot of towns along the Rock River, but Barstow, Illinois is one of the hardest hit areas. TV6 toured Barstow Monday and there are millions of gallons of water flooding the Rock Island County town. Several homes have been damaged and a trailer park right outside of town is underwater.  A levee breech along the Rock River and several agriculture levees giving way are to blame.

The Barstow Fire Department is also surrounded by flood water. The fire department has moved equipment and trucks to dry ground in town in case of an emergency.

"We have a limited number of apparatus in town. Our big concern is always water supply and that's certainly not a problem, so we let most of our big trucks go," says Barstow Fire Chief Mat Schnepple, "We do have all of our EMS equipment here several ATV's that can be used to load up victim. There are paramedics that are being staffed 24/7 to take care of any injuries, because it will not be feasible to get an ambulance in here."

The public is not allowed inside Barstow. Residents are being allowed in on an as needed basis.
