UPDATE: Company officials say there was no explosion, just "a tube leak in the boiler causing a large amount of steam to be released in the plant."

In a press release, company spokesperson Dusky Terry denied original reports.

"Early news reports mistakenly indicated there was an explosion at Fair Station.  There was no explosion.  It was steam released from a leaking tube in the boiler. "

ORIGINAL STORY: Officials in Muscatine County confirm there was an explosion at the Central Iowa Power Cooperative, located on Highway 22, just after 11:30 a.m., Friday May 3, 2013.

KWQC spoke with a firefighter from the Montpelier Fire Department on scene. They said there was an explosion in a boiler.

The employees were evacuated for safety.

Firefighters checked it out and determined it was safe for employees to go back in.

The company is checking its systems to investigate the issue.

According to officials, there are no reported injuries.
