Iowa Same-Sex Birth Certificate Ruling

Updated:

The Iowa Supreme Court is saying the state health department must now list the names of both spouses in a same-sex relationship on a child's birth certificate.

The ruling comes out of a case from Des Moines where one woman delivered the child but the name of the woman she is married to was omitted from the record.

Justices say a state law that allowed only the "Name of the Husband" to appear on the birth certificate violates the state constitution.
