Bettendorf Hosting "Loop" Public Hearing Tonight

We could soon see changes to how we travel from city to city.  Tonight Bettendorf City officials are talking about cutting down hours of operation for a staple of the QCA transit. The city is asking for your opinion at the public hearing at 7PM.  Tonight the public will get the chance to ask questions and discuss reducing the service.

Currently, the Loop travels from Thursday to Sunday. It circles the QCA going from Bettendorf to the Village of East Davenport, downtown Davenport, Rock Island and Moline. But to save money city leaders want to cut back.

One consideration is running the service just twice a week, or only during the summer months.

Although the service is a $1.5 million investment in the quad cities, the federal grant that keeps it running, was only meant to last 3 years. Ridership is also down.

According to the Bettendorf public works director, the heaviest day of use for the loop is Saturdays at nearly 400 riders.  Sundays are the lowest, with an average of 45.

One option city leaders are looking at  is to cut Thursday and Sunday from the schedule.Another option is to just run the Loop on Weekends and during the summers season.

Residents are encouraged to attend the public hearing to give feedback and possible solutions. The hearing is at Bettendorf City Hall.
