The Des Moines County Sheriff's Office, along with the Iowa State Patrol and Mediapolis Fire and Rescue were called to Highway 99 and Mediapolis Road on Wednesday, May 9, 2013, just before 4:00 p.m., for a fatal motorcycle accident.

Upon arrival, first responders found two people, both from Burlington, Iowa, including 32-year-old Branden Ashlee Behne who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, according to the sheriff's office, 25-year-old Shawn Curtis Engle, was found alive, but unresponsive.

The Med Force helicopter was dispatched from Great River Medical Center to transport the Engle to University of Iowa Hospitals.

Investigators say the motorcycle was headed north bound on Hwy 99 when it went into the north bound ditch rolling several times before ejecting the passengers into the bottom of the ditch. The motorcycle came to rest a short distance later.

The accident remains under investigation.
