Three companies want the chance to help guide Rock Island County in its search for a replacement courthouse.

Members of a special committee interviewed those firms for several hours Thursday.

All three firms have experience in planning courthouse projects.

Several have worked on projects facing the same challenges Rock Island county faces.

Trying to find a suitable option with limited money, and figuring out a way to send something to voters that'll actually be approved.

None of the firms were presenting any designs tonight, they were just making their pitches about how they can help the county figure out what the best options are.

Whether it's rebuilding, remodeling, or starting from scratch.

The price tag for these studies is in the tens of thousands of dollars.

Committee members asked detailed questions about those fees.

They also wanted to know if the firms could bring some kind of model to the public at the end of this study.

All of them said that would be no problem, they would bring a concept drawing to present to the county board and voters once the space study is done.

Giving the board an idea of what are its most viable options.

"We're coming in without any biases or any preconceived notions or what the right thing to do is, we just know the right thing to do is to sort of balance everybody's needs and try to find that consensus," says CGL representative Rob Fisch.

The board hopes to pick a planning firm by the end of the month.

Giving the winning firm four months to write its study.

Rock Island County wants to make its final decisions about the courthouse and other county buildings by December.

Putting the issue to voters in next years spring election.
