MidAmerican Asks For Rate Increase

MidAmerican Energy is asking the Iowa Utilities Board for a rate increase.

Reps say the increase would cost the average residential customer an additional $2.73 a month in 2013 and continue to rise during the next few years.

By 2016, the average residential customer would be paying about eight dollars more a month.

If approved, the increase would go into effect in August.

This increase comes as Iowa American Water has also asked for a rate increase.

An interim rate hike went into effect for customers in the Iowa Quad Cities and Clinton on Friday, May 10, 2013.

That increase amounts to an extra $2.65 per month.

The Iowa Utilities Board has yet to decide whether to approve a permanent 19.5% increase.
