A Davenport couple narrowly escaped a fire that broke out inside their home Monday morning, May 13, 2013.

Firefighters were called to the 600 block of Kirkwood Boulevard around 9:20 a.m. When they  arrived, there were flames on the first floor and the fire had already spread to the second floor.

Gerald and Janet Ales live in the home and Janet says her husband heard a loud "pop" upstairs. Then, they ran out of the house.

"I had no time to do anything, I couldn't see anything," said Mrs. Ales. "Everything was just gone. I guess I was just lucky to get out the door. That's how bad it was."

There were also several pets inside the home. Firefighters were able to rescue some, including a cat that was given oxygen at the scene.

After an investigation, the Fire Marshal says the fire was electrical in nature. The report says it started in the living room on the first floor in the southeast corner.
