Governor Pat Quinn asked the federal government to add 16 Illinois counties to a recent federal disaster declaration for 11 counties hit by flooding.

The counties in Illinois' 17th District included in today's request are Henderson, Knox, Peoria, Rock Island, Tazewell and Warren. Last week, Fulton County was approved for federal disaster aid.

"We are continuing to do everything possible to help the families and businesses who are recovering from this historic flood," Governor Quinn said. "I want to thank President Obama for his fast approval of our first request for federal assistance, and I urge quick federal approval of this request so people in these counties can access the critical help they need."

Congresswoman Cheri Bustos applauded Governor Quinn's decision today to request federal disaster aid for additional Illinois counties impacted by the recent flooding.

"I applaud Governor Quinn's decision today to request federal disaster assistance for additional counties in Illinois impacted by the recent record flooding." Bustos said. "Many families and small businesses across our region are still suffering due to the flooding and federal disaster aid will help them in their recovery efforts. I urge the quick approval of this request so communities across Illinois can receive the assistance they need."

The federal disaster declaration will help people and businesses in the 16 new counteis by allowing them to apply for grants and loans to assist with storm-related losses.
