Davenport Police Honor Those Killed On Duty

Area law enforcement are honoring their own killed in the line of duty.
Today, the Honor Guard for the Davenport police department held a memorial remembering those killed while serving the community. The last time a Davenport officer was killed on-duty was in 1972.
The annual event not only serves to recognize officers here in the QCA and across the nation but also their families. Representatives say events like this are a good reminder to all police officers of the dangers of the job.

"They go out, they patrol, they go on their calls," Davenport Police Chief Fran Donchez said. "And maybe they don't think about it consciously everyday, but I think it's a good day to reflect and recognize the dangers that are out there and what awe need to do to protect ourselves and the citizens from those dangers."

They say keeping the public safe makes the job worth it despite those dangers.
