Update-Statement from the Shepard family 5-22-13:

"We would like to thank everybody who took the time from their busy lives to help search for Kathlynn. To see so much love in our community and the surrounding areas is amazing. Thank you for all of your prayers and we hope to have Kathlynn home soon. "We know that members of the public and media want to talk to us. Please understand, the idea of doing an interview is too overwhelming right now. Until Kathlynn is found, we'll remain focused on our family and ask that any requests for information or comment be directed to the DCI."

Update from NBC Des Moines Affiliate WHO 5-21-13:

The Webster County Sheriff's Office says a man in a pickup abducted two girls, a 15-year-old and a 12-year-old and took them to a hog farm at I Avenue near Dayton, Iowa.

The younger of the two girls got away and found a neighbor to call for help.

Officials say information from her led them to 42-year-old Michael Klunder. Authorities later found Klunder dead on a rural property northeast of Dayton.

Now, police are expanding their search for Kathlynn Shepard. She was last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt, blue jeans and a Vikings hat.

Earlier Post:

Iowa authorities are searching for a missing teenage girl they believe was kidnapped.

Police say 15-year-old Kathlynn Shepard and a 12-year-old girl were taken from a bus stop in the town of Dayton, Iowa on Monday, May 20, 2013, near Des Moines.

Authorities believe the girls accepted a ride from a stranger who lured them into his truck.

Police conducted searches yesterday and again last night.

The 12-year-old was later found walking out of woods near a farmhouse. Shepard is still missing.

She is described as 5-feet-6-inches tall, 160 pounds, with blonde hair and blue eyes and was last seen wearing jeans, a gray hooded sweatshirt and a Minnesota Vikings baseball cap.

Anyone with information is urged to call authorities at 515-573-2323.
