The Clinton County Sheriff's Department was called to the 1900 block of southbound Highway 61, just south of Welton, Iowa, Friday morning, June 7, 2013, after 8:00 a.m.
Deputies were responding to a two vehicle accident, but say when they arrived on scene, another accident occurred approximately a half mile north of that scene, in the 1800 block of SB Hwy. 61.
At the first scene, deputies say a 2009 Ford Focus, driven by Rosemary Crawford of Maquoketa, Iowa, struck the back of a grain truck driven by Thomas Diercks of Grand Mound, Iowa.
According to deputies, Crawford was taken to the hospital in an ambulance. Diercks wasn't injured.
At the scene of the second accident, initial investigations indicate a car struck the back of a semi as traffic was slowing or stopped for the crash ahead.
The driver of that crash was taken from the scene by Medforce helicopter. The name or condition of this victim has not been released.
Update 8:55 a.m.: Police have confirmed at the scene there were two different accidents. Both accidents involved a car and a semi-truck.
The accidents happened around 200 yards apart in the southbound lanes. The second occurred just north of 190th street.
Police did not confirm how many people were involved.
Update 8:50 a.m.: One southbound lane is now open. A vehicle is reportedly being towed from the scene.

An eyewitness reports at least two cars are seriously damaged.
