The Davenport Police Department responded to a single car accident on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at 9:32 p.m.,in the 3900 block of Rockingham Road.

Police say 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis was traveling east on Rockingham Road when it crossed the center line, driving into oncoming lanes of traffic as it failed to negotiate a curve in the road.

The vehicle was traveling too fast for the curve when it left the road, hit a utility pole, and flipped over.

According to police, all five occupants, including the driver, 36-year-old Ronald Brinkley of Davenport, were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Police say one occupant was ejected from the vehicle.

Due to the seriousness of the injuries, three occupants were transferred to the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City, for additional treatment, with the other two individuals being treated locally.

The accident remains under investigation, but police say alcohol and excessive speed have been identified as preliminary contributing factors.
