Update 6-18-13:  Davenport police say an autopsy on the victim, Douglas Whalen, shows the cause of his death was from a blunt force injury to the head. According to police, Whalen was involved in an altercation with Joseph Howard Van Hecke and later died at the hospital. Detectives continue to interview witnesses in the investigation.

Update 6-17-13: Joseph Van Hecke pleaded not guilty to the charge during a court appearance on Monday, June 17.

Police in Davenport have just released the name of a man who died after an apparent fight at Modern Woodmen Park in Davenport.

Officials say around 10:00 p.m., on Thursday, June 13, 2013, police were called to a disturbance at the ballpark.

When they arrived, they found 45-year-old Douglas R. Whalen of Davenport, on the ground and bleeding from the head. Whalen later died at University Hospitals.

That night, police arrested 50-year-old Joseph Van Hecke on a charge of disorderly conduct by fighting. Van Hecke was released on bond.

An autopsy is being conducted Monday, June 17, 2013 to determine the cause of Whalen's death.

Police are still investigating the circumstances.
