A Rock Island County official headed to an emergency was sidelined after a collision Thursday in Port Byron, Ill. According to Illinois State Police, the Rock Island County Dodge Durango SUV was on 221st St. responding to an emergency call with lights and siren activated, when it encountered a Ford Mustang and tried to pass it. After the driver of the squad car pulled into the opposite lane of traffic, police say the driver of the Mustang pulled into its lane and the two vehicles collided. The drivers of both vehicles were injured and both vehicles had to be towed.

No charges have been filed while ISP continues to investigate what happened.

The driver of the Mustang has been identified as 55-year-old Paul B. Smith of Port Byron. The name of the driver of the Rock Island County Squad car has not been released
