Illinois' unemployment rate fell by almost 2 tenths of a percent last month, but continues to remain stubbornly high at 9.1 percent. According to figures released by the Illinois Department of Employment Security, Illinois employers added 11,800 private sector jobs in May. That increase was off-set by seasonal job declines as schools went on summer break.

Hiring growth areas include professional and business services; education and health services; and trade, transportation and utilities. Government has lost the most jobs since January, 2010, down by more than 30,000.
