Updated:

The Quad Cities played host Sunday to an antique car race that's supposed to pump about 150-thousand dollars into the local economy, according to the Quad Cities Convention and Visitor's Bureau.

The Great Race started Saturday in St. Paul, MN and a group of about 400 racers and 100 antique cars are headed along the Mississippi toward Mobile, Al. The racers compete and are given a score based on timing and how well they follow a set of specific directions.

Sunday the group made an overnight stop in the Quad Cities. The bureau said it expects them to spend about $50,000 in the area

It also said about 5,000 people, in addition to the racers, turned out to watch the event. The bureau said the spectators are expected to bring about $100,000 into the local economy.

It cost the convention and visitors bureau $5,000 to sponsor and host the race for the day

The racers will head off to Peoria, Il at 8:00 a.m. Monday morning.
