Storm Causes Fire In Rock Island

Updated:

Fire officials say weather is to blame for a house fire in Rock Island, Ill., on Monday afternoon, June 24, 2013.

A home in the 1500 block of 37th Street caught fire shortly after storms raced into the Quad City metro area, around 4:00 p.m.

When firefighters arrived, they were able to put out flames on the outside of the structure, but couldn't go inside because fallen powerlines had electrified the home.

Once the power was cut, they were able to completely put the fire out.

Officials say the fire started when a tree fell on the service line to the home and caused a short in the circuit breaker panel.

No one was home at the time the fire broke out.
