A multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 80 sends a handful of drivers to the hospital and leaves others sitting in traffic for hours.

Police shut down several lanes of the interstate around 1:45 p.m. near LeClaire. Police say somehow a car heading east slowed down or cut-off a semi. It then sparked the crash involving three other vehicles.

Police shut down the east bound lanes and one westbound because of construction to sort it all out. In all, six people were transported to area hospitals. One of them with serious injuries had to be picked up by med force.

Witness Enrique Roman said, "And it's amazing the car was under the trailer. The driver he's nothing. It's just amazing. he was under the car and he's the one who don't have no injuries and I told the guy this is not your day today." Roman says the semi driver told him he was cut off and tried to brake, but the brakes locked up and he fish-tailed because he wasn't carrying a big load.

Investigators are still working to determine exactly what happened.
