Red, White, and Boom! is a yearly tradition in the Quad Cities but this year, there is a new twist.

The firework show will be launched from the Centennial Bridge. Organizers said high river levels make having a barge-based firing site difficult.

"We have wanted to do this for many years to add to the drama and impact that our fireworks display will have coming from the bridge," Kurt Croken, Red, White and Boom! Organizing committee chair, said. "And quite frankly, it's never been possible before."

The Illinois Department of Transportation gave the okay for the bridge to be used.

Red, White and Boom! is Wednesday, July 3rd, with the fireworks starting around 9:30.

During set-up, one lane in each direction will be open and the bridge will be shut down for the actual firework display.

The viewing areas are on 2nd street and Ripley in Davenport and Schwiebert Park in Rock Island.
