There's always something new to talk about at the John Deere Classic. Whether it's a new batch of pro golfers in the field or just a new food option. But this year, something old that recently got a facelift has a lot of people talking.

It stands 150 tall overlooking Silvis. A lot of people see it on their way here to the tournament. Now, the city's water tower has bee repainted to look like a golf ball on a tee.

Nearly $300,000 was spent on the paint job. The water tower needed repainting and would have cost less if it was just painted plain white.

But supporters say the design should get noticed as the JDC is broadcast around the world in 30 different countries with the water tower in the background.

On the course, meany people simply think it's pretty cool.

"It's actually my first time down here to the classic and rolling into town, it was pretty cool seeing the ball in the sky with the tournament here too," said Chance Oster.

Dave Dinneen agrees, "I think it's pretty awesome. I think it's neat the way the city is promoting golf in the area, especially this time of year with the open here. Anything to promote the John Deere Classic is good for the community and the city of Silvis."

The water tower project is being funded by the city through tax increment financing or T.I.F. The project isn't quite finished yet, but it is expected to be completed in the near future.
