Fareway Deal With Audubon Terminated

Updated:

Fareway is no longer in future of the former Audubon Elementary School building.

Fareway has pulled it's agreement with the Rock Island/Milan school district.

The grocery store has been working to replace the historic building for months.

Initially neighbors living around the proposed Fareway site (Audubon school) filed a preliminary injunction against Fareway in an attempt to keep them from opening the store there.

A judge granted them a temporary 10 day restraining order earlier this week, blocking Fareway from moving forward.

On Thursday night, July 11, 2013, Rock Island city officials confirmed Fareway is dropping their attempts to have Audubon re-zoned so they can open the store there.

Thomas Benson, the lawyer for the neighbors in this case, has filed this settlement and motion to dismiss the case.

Benson says he is encouraged by Fareway's comments that they are looking at alternative locations in Rock Island to locate their store.

KWQC TV-6 spoke with aldermen Paul Foley and Stephen Tollenaer on Thursday night, both expressed disappointed in the development.
