A key part of the rescue of the survivor was due to the work of a boat operator in the area. Backwater Gambler Brint Burrill has navigated the Rock River for over 30 years with skiers.

He maneuvered a boat during the rescue and tonight he was recognized.

"It's nice to have other people in the area that we can call for resources," said Jerry Mader, Blackhawk Fire chief. "If we don't have what's necessary then we can call resources in so it's nice to have them around."

Burrill was presented with a plaque in "appreciation for his selfless courage in the life saving rescue on July 6th".

The Blackhawk Fire Department also donated money to the team.
