UPDATE: Muscatine Doctor Gives Up License

Former Muscatine doctor David Gierlus has voluntarily given up his medical license.

This summer the former family practitioner at Trinity Muscatine was sentenced to 8 years in prison after pleading guilty to unlawfully distributing prescription drugs, in exchange for sexual favors. 
     
Gierlus was first charged in the summer of 2012. Now he's made a deal with the medical board to give up his license.

David Gierlus was sentenced on Thursday, July 18, 2013, to eight years in prison, to be followed by five years of supervised release with special conditions.

Gierlus , a former family practitioner at Trinity Muscatine, pled guilty to one count of unlawfully distributing a schedule III controlled substance, hydrocodone.

All other charges against him were dismissed.

As part of his plea agreement, Gierlus admitted to being sexually involved with a patient and prescribing her the narcotic several times.
