BREAKING: One Dead In Opheim, IL Train Accident



From Henry County Sheriff's Office:

"On Friday, July 19, 2013 at approx. 11:59 a.m., the Henry County Sheriff's Office was notified of a Burlington Northern Santa Fe railway train and construction equipment (skid steer) crash. The crash occurred at the BNSF Main St. railway crossing in Ophiem, IL located on 700N.

The skid steer was traveling westbound through the railway crossing and was struck by a northbound BNSF train. The driver of the skid steer (a 52-year-old Alexis, IL man) was killed as a result of the crash.

The name of the victim was being withheld pending notification of family by the Henry County Coroner's Office."


At 12:05 p.m. an individual was struck and killed by a train as he drove a Bobcat over the tracks. He is not an employee of the railroad or a contractor.

BNSF Railway has confirmed this information to KWQC. KWQC's Mark Stevens is on the scene and will have a full report in our newscasts. 


We have just learned of a train accident in Opheim, IL.  Sheriff's deputies tell us there is an accident on highway 150.  Opheim is halfway between Alpha and Orion, IL.   We have a crew on the way and will keep you updated here and on-air at 4, 5, and 6.
