Galesburg Releases New Dog Recommendations

After a deadly dog attack, the city of Galesburg took action and this afternoon released a plan to revamp rules to keep dogs under control and hold owners accountable.

In March, Ryan Maxwell died after being attacked by a neighborhood dog. Immediately the city put together an animal control work group.

The group has released it's findings and you can read it all right HERE.

Some of the highlights include a change in ordinances to limit people to two dogs, not four. They want the police to take over animal calls, instead of the humane society. Stiffer rules for repeat offenders, like fines and eventually banning the person from owning dogs, if there is a series of dangerous encounters.

The council still has the final say. These are only recommendations.
