Area High School Blood Drive

Area students are meeting the challenge today with the annual High School Challenge Blood Drive.
Typically during the summer months, blood centers see fewer donations. This is a way to help meet supply needs but also a fun way to get students involved.
Students from both Illinois and Iowa sign up to help and it's a competition to see which school can bring in the most donations.

"The great thing about the high school challenge is we have students who recruit their fellow classmates, their teachers, all of their friends," said Lori Arguello of the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center. "So it's a great way for them to give back to the community and also help save lives."

The grand prizes include $250 toward the food charity of the winning school's choices. About 150 donors were expected to participate today.
